BART is a joke

After hearing on the news about problems and delays between Milbrae and Daly City I decided to drive to Daly City to take BART. After the normal wait in the train that was there (around 10m) we started moving slowly to the city. The train ride was not too delayed, only around 10 minutes total. But then we arrive at Embarcadero exactly at the same time another train pulls in on the other side of the platform to find out that there are no Escalators! 2 broken escalators at peak hour?! Really, BART? Can you be more useless?

Old seat covers

These are so old and run down it looks like they have been there since 1970's.

Broken Escalators

These two Escalators were broken on Thursday, July 7th. The brand new Daly City escalator is already broken, and so was a escalator at Embarcadero.

Broken seat

Some seats aren't (so) dirty. They're just broken.

Stains galore

Eeew...

More seat stains

Would you sit here? I sure wouldn't even if this was the only available one.

Escalator at Embarcadero

Someone threw up at this Escalator last Tuesday AM. As you can see it's Monday, 1 week later, and it's still dirty...

Inside panel

The inside panel by this seat was all messed up. Either it was vandalism or it was removed for some other reason.

Dirty seats

This seat was either dirty or stained... Not the worst I've seen, though.

BART Carpet floors - stains or dirt?

This is a good example of the poor conditions of the carpet floors in BART trains. This is not the worst I've seen, but nonetheless it shows how stained and dirty the floors are.

Welcome to BART

BART is a widely used commuter train in the San Francisco Bay area. It's used by over 350K people a day (stats available from the BART website). Its trains feature cloth seats and in many cases carpeting. Unfortunately those materials get dirty easily, as you will see by the pictures we will be providing here daily.
We hope you'll enjoy the ride!
